How to Fix Corrupted DLL Files in Your Windows 10

Dynamic Link Libraries or DLL files are vital to the functioning of the operating system and related applications. They contain procedures and functions which are used by several Windows applications. The program does not run independently and is usually downloaded in .exe files.

DLL errors are common and can happen in any Windows system regardless of the version. The easiest way to troubleshoot is with a fresh api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll download and reinstallation.

Note: There are specific steps to fix the different specific DLL errors. However, some methods are common for all programs and files.

Fix Corrupted DLL Files in Your Windows 10 pc

1. If The File Was Deleted, Restore It

If the file was deleted by you accidentally or by malware, or by installing another application, you could recover it from the Recycle Bin. All you have to do is open the Recycle Bin, search for the DLL file, and click on the “Restore” option.

2. Fix the Issue Using the SFC Scan Program

The SFC scan can replace, modify, fix and scan most files and applications. Use the SFC Scan, click on the “Start” button, choose the “Command Prompt,” and type sfc/scan now and then wait for the scan to be complete. Once the scanning is done, reboot the system and try rerunning the file to see if it works.

3. Do a Malware or Antivirus Scan

Malware and viruses can cause severe damage to DLL files. If any of your DLL files are dysfunctional or if Windows is displaying any DLL error message, you may want to let your antivirus program scan the entire system.

4. Update All The Drivers

If the system drivers are outdated, that could be the reason for the DLL errors. You could try updating all the system drivers manually through the official Microsoft website. You could also try free diver boosting software tools.

5. Reinstall the Application That Showed DLL Error

Sometimes the application doesn’t run because it hasn’t been upgraded or installed correctly. You could try reinstalling the game or another app. After the installation, try rebooting the system to check if the software is running smoothly. If it is, it proves that the issue was with the app and not the DLL File.

6. Reinstall the DLL File

If Windows shows a DLL error message, you could try uninstalling the relevant DLL file and then executing a new api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll download from the official Microsoft website.

Once the download is done, open the Zip file and click on the “Install” button. Follow the instructions given in the box. When you finish installing the DLL, reboot the system and try running the file to check if it’s running smoothly.

7. Update the Windows Operating System Software

Check for any available updates by clicking on the “Start” button. Install the updates, if any, and then restart the computer. Sometimes, DLL files don’t work because Windows hasn’t been updated to the latest version.

 Other Solutions

You can do other things like performing a cleaning function, running a deep scan, or using a repair tool. You can fix most DLL errors on your own. However, if it gets complicated, it may be advisable to seek professional help. There are several DLL repair tools available from third parties.

Ensure you only used tools from reputed parties because repair tools available for free online could contain viruses and malware.
